The 2011 Skyview Swap N Shop is now in the history books. We were blessed with great weather, being JUST beyond the outer edges of hurricane Irene! We lucked out big-time.
The Skyview Swap N Shop is the ARRL Western PA section convention. ARRL officials on hand included Atlantic Division Director Bill Edgar, N3LLR – WPA Section Manager John Rodgers, N3MSE and our own Larry, AB3ER Section Emergency Coordinator. Forums and meetings were held in the Skyview clubhouse meeting room. Thanks to all ARRL officials that came to our fest and too all that attended the meetings.
On the outside we had no shortage of venders lining the club grounds. Lots of good deals to be had!
In the Skyview pavilion we were cooking up a storm for breakfast and lunch. Our classics like the Skyview Burger and the Skyview Dipole Hotdog were hot off the grill! The smoke was pouring out and the lines were forming with lots of hungry campers!
The Westmoreland Emergency Amateur Radio Service brought their new emergency response vehicle for show and tell. This converted bus will do very nicely for emergency communication when the time comes or for public demonstrations of what ham radio is capable of.
The Skyview Swap N Shop may not be the biggest area hamfest, but it is often considered one of the friendliest of them all. An afternoon in the country with good friends, good food and good deals always goes over very well.
Our main prizes being raffled were a Begali nickel plated Pearl CW paddle valued at approximately $400.00 www.i2rtf.com , a very nice Fluke multi-meter complete with the industrial lead set valued at approximately $400.00 and a $50.00 gift certificate from DX Engineering www.dxengineering.com . Other prizes included a Skyview hat donated from Created By Amy www.createdbyamy.com , N3FJP logging software and ARRL gift certificates.
